WASILLA - Two women were involved in a head-on collision at about 8:55 a.m., Wednesday that rerouted traffic on Knik-Goose Bay Road for a couple of hours.
Alaska State Troopers responded to a collision at the intersection of Knik-Goose Bay Road and Settler's Bay Drive after a Dodge pickup driven outbound from Wasilla by Melinda Hatfield, 43, of Wasilla crossed the centerline and struck a Ford Taurus driven by Lisa Shira, 47, of Wasilla, according to Alaska State Trooper Spokesperson Megan Peters.
Shira sustained critical injuries in the wreck and was transported to the local hospital for treatment, Peters said.
Traffic in the area was diverted around the scene for about two hours while Troopers investigated the accident scene and the wreckage was cleared from the road, Peters said.
She said investigation is continuing regarding the cause of the collision.
