WASILLA — A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect at midnight Saturday for the Matansuka Valley, including Palmer, Wasilla, Sutton and Chickaloon.

The service said Friday evening that 4 to 8 inches of snow are expected in the area Friday night and into Saturday, with even more possible in the Hatcher Pass area. Snowfall should taper off toward Saturday afternoon, according to the advisory.

The advisory said visibility will likely be limited, and the Alaska Department of Transportation also advised that travel could be difficult on both the Glenn and Parks Highways through Saturday.

An advisory was also issued for the Anchorage area, with possible rain mixed with snow and forecast accumulations of snow of up to four inches between midnight and Saturday afternoon.

The service is also calling for more snow in the Susitna Valley, parts of which were hit by as much as 20 inches of snow on Thursday, forcing several schools to close in the Willow and Talkeetna areas. Between two and four more inches are expected by Saturday.
