The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has selected Cheyenne Heindel to be its new finance director, according to a press release from public affairs director Patty Sullivan.
Borough manager John Moosey cited Heindel’s “sense of teamwork and integrity” in the release.
“My family is grown,” Heindel’s statement read. “I’m at a good time in my life to take on the challenges and responsibility at the borough.”
Heindel has worked with the borough for 22 years, serving as Budget & Revenue Division Manager from Nov. 2004 through July 2016. Prior to that, she was a borough Assistant Comptroller from Aug. 1994 to Oct. 2004. She had served as the interim finance director since July 2016.
Under her direction, the borough earned a favorable bond rating of AA from Fitch Ratings for the first time last summer. She was also involved in assisting the borough when it won a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2014 budget.
Prior to joining the Mat-Su borough, Heindel had worked as a certified public accountant from 1986 through 1994 with Mikunda Cottrell and Associates and Zitzmann & Hanrahan, CPAs in Alaska. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boise State University.
