To the editor:
On Dec. 13, 1998, my life was changed. After severe whiplash injuries at work as a snowplow driver, I began a nationwide search for pain relief. It all started at an emergency room and from then on I was examined by every doctor imaginable. There were GPs, ANPs, nerve doctors, physiatrists, orthopedists, neurosurgeons, pain doctors, anesthesiologists, physical therapists, chiropractors, psychoneurologists, a police psychiatrists, regular psychiatrists, psychologists, independent medical evaluators, radiologists and the list goes on.
However, when I returned to Advanced Medical Centers of Alaska in Wasilla after giving up on them once, things began to change for the better. New treatment avenues were offered, and I was referred to Advanced Physical Therapy where my life condition improved and now I can honestly say that my pain is no longer anxiety and depressive. My pain medications have been reduced. My pain level is minor and manageable.
How did they do it? Disbelief and distrust were put aside. They listened and put their hands where I said it hurt.
Thanks especially to Kim Craft, Jack Wade and Keith Poorbaugh who worked tirelessly to put me back together again. I think I might be able to go back to work some day. Never give up hope, even when they say there is none to give.
