Herbal store honored

WASILLA -- Dori Cranmore wants people to be well and, as owner of All About Herbs, she offers plenty of free advice to customers who want to take a natural path to better living.

Earlier this month, after more than two years in business, the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce recognized Cranmore's store as the Small Business of the Year.

"It's quite an honor," she said. "It means that what we're doing makes a difference to the community."

Cranmore takes pride in the fact that her store, located in the D & A Shop Rite shopping center, offers something different for Valley residents.

"We try to stay very unique so we don't have to compete with other companies," she said. "I personally research all the products that come in, and we have many products that aren't available in other places."

A quick walk through her store reveals dozens of unique teas, oils and herbs that one would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. From soap-making products to "good mood tonics," candles, and local honey, Cranmore carries myriad natural remedies and homemade gifts. Tiny bags full of dried leaves and roots hang on the wall.

Recently, Cranmore began offering detox foot spas.

"You detox your body by sticking your feet in the water," she said. "They last about 30 minutes and they allow people to get detoxed without taking a lot of pills."

Cranmore, a registered nurse, said detox sessions help clean out the body and relieve arthritis and joint pain.

Cranmore first became interested in natural wellness while working as a nurse for 27 years. During that time she realized there was an alternative to chemical prescriptions.

Her zeal for home remedies eventually led her to open a shop that is a real extension of her passion.

"We try to educate people here," she said. "When they take home an herbal formula, they will know something about the herbs they bring home and we offer free herbal classes every month so people can learn more about what goes on their body."
