Herb Naumann passed away Jan. 5, 2005, after a sudden illness, at the Southeastern Arizona Veterans Hospital, while visiting friends in Tucson, Ariz.

A celebration of life will be held Feb. 5 in Wasilla, at the VFW Hall.

Mr. Naumann was born to and predeceased by Dorothy E. (Hunter) Landis and Herbert W. Naumann in Philadelphia.

Mr. Naumann spent his early years there, where he learned through a dear family friend, Andy Fitzgerald, to love the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

After Mr. Naumann's honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, he moved to Colorado, where he lived and operated his hunting-guide and outfitting business.

In the mid-1970s, Mr. Naumann relocated to Alaska, where he resided until November 2004. A true adventurer, Montana was to be his next destination.

His family wrote, "Although there are many people who should be mentioned in this farewell, it is with sincere appreciation to the following who, over the years, became a second family to Herb - Irene Pettigrew and Jim Ostrem, Carol and Jack McClellan, Karen Boita and Bunny and Jim Carson.

"Herb was a man who possessed a large personality and many talents, who lived life on his own terms. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him and called him friend, from the East Coast to the Rockies to Alaska. He was a true mountain man who had the courage to follow his dreams. We love him dearly and miss him."

Mr. Naumann is survived by his sisters, Betty Naumann, Lenore (Jack) Gates and Kathy Naumann; his niece, Elizabeth Marren; nephews, Patrick and Lee Marren, all of the Philadelphia area, and members of his extended family.
