Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Herbert Beldon Wilbur, 54, died at his home Feb. 27, 2005. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Palmer Highway Church of God in Palmer, with Pastor Steven Reem officiating. Pallbearers will be Dennis Seber, Roy Keen, Carl Wilbur, Dale Wilbur, Ron Goodwin, Jim Merchant, Isaac Moore and Tim Gillow. Floral arrangements are welcome.
Mr. Wilbur was born in Eugene, Ore., on May 26, 1950. In 1964, he made Alaska his home. During his life, he served in the Air National Guard and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. At the time of his death he was employed with VECO Alaska Inc.
His family wrote, "Herb was a devoted husband and father. His passion was his family, hunting, fishing and snowmachining. Herb was admired and respected by all who knew him. Herb was a kind and wonderful man and will be missed by all those who loved him."
His parents, Wesley and Elizabeth Wilbur, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cheryl Wilbur; daughter, Sabrina Wilbur; both of Wasilla; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Marcella Wilbur of Wasilla; brother, Dale Wilbur of Wasilla; sister, Carol Scott of Sisters, Ore.; father-in-law, Ralph Keen of Palmer; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Marie Keen of Palmer; nephews, Jim, Troy and Scott Wilbur and Ron Goodwin and nieces, Colleen Gardner, Lori Miner and Lisa Drorbaugh.
