How about a little Alaska prep football trivia for you.
So which program has the longest running streak of appearances in the Alaska prep football playoffs?
Could it be defending large-schools state champion Service?
The Cougars’ five state titles are tops among any team since ASAA sanctioned the state tournament in 1990. But Service could only piece together back-to-back years in the state playoffs before the Cougars were bumped out of contention before the playoffs this year.
How about Soldotna, the three-time defending 3A kings?
Nope.
Before their three-peat, the Stars spent the postseason before listening to the playoffs on the radio.
Could it be Palmer?
Yes, the Moose are typically a sure bet for the postseason. Since its first appearance in the ASAA state tourney in 1994, the Moose have missed the playoffs just once — 1999.
So, beginning with the 2000 season, this is 10 straight years for those who are counting.
And it’s not even the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears, who advanced to the semifinals in six straight years prior to this season.
Want your answer?
It’s the Colony Knights.
The Knights have an impressive 13-year run in the state playoffs. During that stretch, Colony has advanced to the state championship game twice, finishing as the runner-up in 2000 and 2006.
So, ask that questions sports fans. You’ll be a hit at the party.
