Like a guest that won’t leave, the high winds simply refuse to leave the Mat-Su Borough, as the warning extends until Thursday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the latest advisory for the lower Matanuska Valley-including Palmer, Wasilla, and Big Lake
The NWS advisory calls for winds from the north at 25 to 35 mph with gusts from 50 to 60 mph. The strongest winds are again expected from Palmer to the Parks/Glenn Interchange. The higher wind gusts (60 mph) are expected to be sporadic.
The winds could, again, cause power outages and gusty winds could blow unsecured objects around, though not to the levels the Mat-Su has seen recently.
This latest advisory comes as the Mat-Su has been pummeled by high winds for the past two weekends, resulting in thousands of people without power and the cancellations of several holiday events, including the Wasilla Tree Lighting and that Colony Christmas Parade, which has been rescheduled for this Friday, December 19 at 5:00 p.m.
This is a developing story.
