HHS forced to cancel boys soccer season

HOUSTON — Houston High School was forced to cancel its boys soccer season, HHS activities director Norm Bouchard said late last week.

“We didn’t have enough players to fully commit to the season,” Bouchard said. “We decided to take a step back, give people proper warning and try to build it back up for next year.”

Bouchard said only about 13 players originally decided to participate in boys soccer this year, but that number continued to dwindle as the Hawks came closer to their first game of the season.

At one point, the Hawks didn’t have nearly enough players to field a team for an official match.

By canceling the season before the Hawks’ first match, all games with Houston will just be deleted from the master schedule, Bouchard said.

The Houston girls squad will continue with the 2009 season.
