MAT-SU — Mat-Su College has announced the winners of its 18th annual High School Portfolio Competition. This year, there were many more submissions than in the past and jurors were impressed with the fine caliber of submissions.
First place and winner of a two-semester tuition scholarship (12-credit hours per semester) is Riana Sather of Mat-Su Central School.
“This is a very impressive portfolio and a masterly use of material,” a juror commented while reviewing her portfolio.
The second[place winner of the six-credit tuition scholarship is MeKennah Ward of Wasilla High School. Ward’s distinctive experimentation with tools and materials enhanced her submission and allowed for a quality presentation.
There was a three-way tie for third place. Lindsey Barbee and Alexa Bissa, both of Palmer High, and Ruth Kari of Colony High each submitted interpretations of their respective themes and used individual and distinctive experimentation.
Honorable mention was awarded to Rebecca Vaughan of Palmer High, Kimmer Trolinger of Houston High and Rebecca Vanlue of American Charter Academy.
Students’ work will hang through March 14 in the College Art Gallery, Room 200, in the Fred and Sara Machetanz Building.
