High school grads snubbed

To the editor:

We are the proud parents of a graduate from Valley Pathways high School that held its commencement ceremony May 15 at the Curtis D. Menard Sports Complex. Valley Pathways is an alternative high school in Palmer and there were 51 students who graduated. We were deeply disappointed that there was not one school board member present to certify those hard-working students’ diplomas. Are the accomplishments of these students any less deserving of recognition that those of other area high schools?

It was also heartbreaking to see that the Frontiersman neither advertised the date and time of the graduation nor was one picture or article covering the ceremony. Jim Wanser, the principal, oversees one of the most caring , diligent and dedicated staff we have ever encountered, and this lack of support from both the school board and the local newspaper is very dishonoring — and at the very least — tragic.
