WASILLA — A man who Alaska State Troopers say sped away from a traffic stop at more than 100 MPH was arrested after crashing his truck near the intersection of Hyer Road and Upper Drive Sunday night.
According to a trooper dispatch about the incident, officers tried to stop a 2005 Chevy pick-up on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near Shoreline Drive just before midnight for allegedly driving 88 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Instead of stopping, however, the driver sped away.
A short time later, the vehicle crashed into the ditch, causing damage to the truck but leaving the driver, 24-year-old Caleb Rentz, uninjured.
Troopers arrested Rentz for felony first-degree eluding and DUI and took him to Mat-Su Pretrial, where he was held on $5,000 cash bail. As of Monday morning, online records showed Rentz was still lodged at the Palmer facility.
