The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday for the Matanuska Valley, including the cities of Palmer, Wasilla, Sutton and Chickaloon.
Winds Wednesday were from northeast from 25 to 40 mph and were expected to increase to 45 to 60 mph after midnight, according to the weather service. Gusts are predicted to increase from 55 to 75 mph after midnight.
The weather services says an upper level disturbance will move through the Matanuska Valley tonight through late Thursday afternoon. “The pressure gradient will tighten and colder air will move in from the Copper River Basin. The combination of these factors will cause high winds in the Matanuska Valley.”
