MAT-SU — National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning, with gusts exceeding 75 mph in the Matanuska Valley communities of Palmer, Wasilla, Sutton and Chickaloon.

The wind warning is in effect through 3 p.m., Wednesday, with winds expected to weaken to 55 mph Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Matanuska Electric Association is reporting a power outage in Palmer this morning that lasted about an hour. However, according the co-op’s Facebook page, the outage also took out the utility’s phone and Internet systems for a couple of hours.

“If you tried to call during this time, we apologize for any frustration. We are up and running now!” a recent MEA co-op’s Facebook post says.

Mat-Su Borough sent out a e-mail this afternoon, too, telling people about the wind warning and urging residents to double-check emergency supplies.

Recommended provisions include:

• Alternative heating source

• If you have a generator, verify the fuel

• Check batteries for flashlights and radio

• Several gallons of drinking water

• Food

• Have a plan on where to go if your home is not warm.

The Borough has a hotline for updates during emergencies: 761-3700 as well as a public affairs page www.matsugov.us/publicaffairs
