High winds to blame for brief power outage in Wasilla

WASILLA — Heavy winds shut down the lights to 22 Matanuska Electric Association customers Monday morning, as gusts up to 55 miles per hour whipped wires in the Valley.

MEA spokeswoman Lorali Carter said the winds wore down a piece of copper wire along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway before 10 a.m., causing the wire to break.

The result was a nearly 20 minute power outage.

Carter said crews responded to the broken line and fixed it.
