Palmer resident Hildegard E. Adams died Jan. 21, 2003, at Providence Extended Care Facility from lymphoma. A memorial service will be held Feb. 6 at 2 p.m., at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 4404 Elmwood in Palmer, with Pastor Richard Allen officiating.
Mrs. Adams was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Berlin, Germany. She lived in El, Paso, Texas from 1962 to 1986. She worked for the British Air Force, the Russians and the Germans during World War II, contacting the proper agencies regarding prisoners of war. She moved to Palmer in April of 1986, where she resided until her death.
She was a member of PHI CAPPA BETA PHI from 1968 to 1970. She loved to cook and was always trying out new German recipes on her friends and family. She was an avid gardener who loved planting her flower beds and boxes.
Her family wrote, "Oma will be remembered as the preserver of German culture; she taught us their Christmas traditions, songs and food. She was always ready to feed anyone, and if you didn't have seconds she thought something must not be quite right with the meal. She was quick to give you a hug and always listened to your troubles."
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband of 51 years, Floyd R. Adams; son Thomas F. Adams of Virginia; daughters Ursula Smith of S.C., Barbara Jo Stanley of Palmer; sister Margot Fonslau of Berlin, Germany; cousins Monika Ludwig and family, Frank Fonslau and family of Berlin, Germany; and five grandchildren, Kaire, Annette, Vanessa, Eric and Sarah.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1301 Century Dr. Wasilla AK 99654.
Arrangements were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
