Historical society plans Alaska Day dinner

WASILLA — The Wasilla-Knik Historical Society’s annual Alaska Day dinner and famous dessert auction — always a sell-out — will be 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, in the Palmer Elks Lodge, 2600 N. Barry’s Resort Road. Proceeds from the auction go toward support of the Knik Museum, Mile 13.9, Knik-Goose Bay Road.

Well-known auctioneer John Hett will be at the podium once again, keeping the auction action lively. Chef Marian Romano, whose formal training includes six months at the Culinary Training Institute in Calabria, Italy, will be serving beef in Burgundy mushroom sauce with local vegetables and intensely chocolate dessert. Once again Society members Angela Stephl, husband Dan and their friends will be volunteer wait help. A presentation will be given by Alaska Bureau of Land Management archeologist Robert King on “Tales of long-distance dog mushing from Alaska in the early 1900s.”

Desserts are welcome! Donate a favorite dessert to the auction and join old-time Alaskans at this popular event while supporting the worthwhile organization dedicated to preserving our history.

Cost for dinner and beverages is $40.

For information and tickets call 376-2005 or 373-5375.

Arlene Stephl is secretary of the Wasilla-Knik Historical Society.
