I would like to make an appeal to residents of the Wasilla and Knik areas on behalf of our local historical society. We really need local residents to join in helping to document and preserve our local history. The society needs members who have a real interest in Wasilla and Knik histories.
The 100th anniversary of the founding of the town of Wasilla will be here in less than five years. Some of you know more of Wasilla’s history before statehood and before the pipeline than I will ever know.
Won’t you share your memories and help preserve them? Do you have photos or letters tucked away in a box somewhere that show some interesting things about our area?
Do you have stories about Wasilla you’ve heard from your parents or older relatives that would be fun to share?
The city of Wasilla is in the process of forming a committee to work on its centennial celebration. You can help make it one of the grandest celebrations ever seen. Please get involved.
The Wasilla-Knik Historical Society needs new members willing to work. Due to many different factors, the group needs new members on its board of directors. You can help!
The Wasilla Museum is conducting an oral history project. Call the museum and tell staff you want to add to the archives of the vibrant history of Wasilla.
Oh, by the way, due to health issues of some board members and a lack of people able to help right now, the annual Knik picnic at the Knik Museum scheduled for this weekend has been postponed. We’ll let you know when.
I hope the historical society will be hearing from you soon. The phone number is 376-2005.
