MEADOW LAKES — A hitchhiker clubbed over the head and relieved of his backpack led troopers to a man they arrested for robbery Sunday.
According to a trooper press statement, the robbery was reported at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 23 on Pittman Road a half mile north of the Parks Highway, and very near to the Pittman Road trooper post.
The victim claimed to have been hitchhiking along Pittman when a car pulled up and someone got out with “some kind of a club” and struck the victim before stealing a backpack, which contained a laptop and cash.
Troopers say they identified the suspect as Jonas Jensen, 25, and arrested him for robbery, assault, theft and weapons misconduct and jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $10,000 bail. He was still in jail as of Wednesday morning.
Troopers ask anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to call Sgt. Michael Henry with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation at 745-2131 or, to remain anonymous, Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
