Holiday hoops: Local teams score wins at various tournaments

Houston boys top hosts

HAWAII — The Houston Hawks posted a 43-41 win over host St. Francis during the first day of the Merv Lopes Classic in Hawaii on Monday.

Scott Kramer posted 18 points and seven rebounds and Brett Lapham added nine points and five rebounds for the Hawks (1-0).

Houston is making its first trip outside in four years.

Colony girls win again

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Colony Knights used a monster second-half effort to score a 65-28 win over Riverside High School of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, during the second day of the Cactus Jam in Scottsdale, Ariz., Tuesday.

Colony led 14-10 after the first quarter and headed into halftime with a nine-point lead, but used a 21-5 third-quarter run to separate from Riverside. Kate Klapperich led the Knights with 21 points. Allison Leigh added 15 and Tess Forstner chipped in 11.

Colony cruised to an 80-20 win over Archbishop Oscar Romero on Monday.

Colony plays Erie Central from Erie, Pa., on Thursday.

Colony boys win twice

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Colony Knights posted consecutive wins during the first two days of the Cactus Jam in Scottsdale, Ariz., earlier this week.

Colony opened with a 55-46 win over Harker (Calif.) and followed with a 55-40 victory over Saint Albert (Canada).

Warrior girls roll to win over Skagway

FAIRBANKS — The Wasilla Warriors cruised to a 61-33 win over the Skagway Panthers Tuesday during the first day of the Mount McKinley Bank Holiday Classic basketball tournament at Monroe Catholic School in Fairbanks.

Alyssa Hutchins led the Warriors with 12 points. Kyla Dinkel added 11 and Alexis Imoe had 10.

Host Monroe edges Palmer

FAIRBANKS — Monroe used a late effort to earn a 53-45 win over Palmer during the first day of the Mount McKinley Bank Holiday Classic basketball tournament at Monroe Catholic School in Fairbanks.

Sean Niekamp posted 11 points and seven rebounds for Palmer.
