MAT-SU — Buckle up if you’re headed out this weekend.
As is often the case around holiday weekends, law enforcement throughout the Mat-Su Borough report they will be extra vigilant through June 3 for part of the nationally funded Click It or Ticket campaign.
The campaign pays overtime hours for police officers to focus on traffic patrol. The Wasilla and Palmer police departments, as well as the Alaska State Troopers, have been running the extra patrols since May 21.
Meanwhile, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Alaska State Troopers will be in the Knik River Public Use Area on all-terrain vehicles and four-wheel drive trucks ensuring people are using the recreational area for its intended uses according to the Department of Natural Resources KRPU Management Plan.
This enhanced enforcement is funded by DNR to prevent degradation of the resources that draw people to the area. Troopers will enforce DNR regulations that prohibit activities including burning wood pallets, target shooting in restricted areas, shooting at targets made of unauthorized materials and cutting down trees.
