Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Anchorage resident Hollis Smith, 82, died June 12, 2005, at Providence Extended Care in Anchorage.
A graveside service with military honors was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born June 14, 1923 in Stringer, Miss. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard, who moved to Wasilla in 1986 and enjoyed downhill skiing.
His family wrote, "His kind and loving spirit will be missed by everyone."
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Frazier and Danielle Smith of Wasilla; nephews, Benny Smith of Wasilla, Bruce Smith of Merced, Calif., Norman Smith of Tacoma, Wash., Jeffrey Smith of Atwater, Calif., David Pavageau of Seattle, Wash., Paul Smith of Wasilla and Tony Smith of Tukwila, Wash.; nieces, Eileen Smith and Dianne Walkup of Tacoma, Wash., Aggie Schoonover of El Portal, Calif., and Rosemary Ritter of Anchorage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ollie (Knight) Smith, and wife, Margaret "Peggy" Smith.
