Home school gives room for advancing educationally

When you’re a student, how do you find good educational opportunities? Finding a school that allows you to succeed in what you are good at, but also helps you where you have trouble, is something to value. My experience as a student at Mat-Su Central has been nothing but enjoyable, and it is an opportunity I appreciate.

Home school has not been “the easy way out” for me. Yes, the biggest advantage in home schooling is my flexible schedule, but that does not mean sleeping in every day. Home school has allowed me to work part-time and gain experience in a work environment. Being home-schooled allows me to do my school work in the afternoons and evenings, and have the mornings open to work at the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman. I am not confined by strict school hours. I decide how much schoolwork I need to accomplish, then I can add extra activities around that.

Many people ask if I yearn for a typical teenage social life in high school. The truth is, I have had many opportunities that if I went to a normal public school I would have had to turn down. I have had the chance to travel to places like New York, Chicago and other places in the Lower 48. I also have been able to expand my hours volunteering in the community. These opportunities have helped me to expand socially and spread out. I have made many friends with people outside my own age group.

I also have been able develop qualities that will be useful in the future, like being self-motivated to get things done. Instead of answering only to a teacher, I have had to take charge of my own education and schedule. Home school has given me the freedom most teenagers wish for, but cannot grasp because of the strict schedule of public schools.

Mat-Su Central gives a lot of diversity in classes. I can take classes that relate to what field of work I desire to enter into. Home school also gives the option of taking college classes or advanced high school classes. Taking these classes gives me a head start on my chosen career path.

Out of all the home school programs in Alaska, the teachers are what really make Mat-Su Central stand out. Mat-Su Central offers in-school classes along with the work you do at home. The teachers at Mat-Su Central are more than willing to help when I have a problem I cannot figure out on my own. I feel like the teachers at Mat-Su Central see me as an individual rather than just another student.

Home school gives room for educational advancement and there is a great diversity in classes to choose from. Mat-Su Central is a well-organized school that helps build a foundation for your future. If you are looking for a school that gives many educational opportunities, Mat-Su Central is an excellent choice!
