Have you ever noticed that certain things or elements around us never change? For instance, the semi-monumental things that affect us only momentarily such as our birthday, Christmas, Thanksgiving or some other holiday-related event like that. Then again, there are the light, minor things such as work, dentist appointments and for most of us, the starting of a new school year.
Yes, once again we are entering a new school year. For my fellow high school students and I, life is now being filled with grade-point averages, lockers, report cards, and, of course, the classrooms that are filled with us.
Along with the filling of classrooms comes the filling of bleachers for the viewing of some friendly football competition between the four Valley high schools -- Palmer, Colony, Houston and, of course, Wasilla.
Some of this competition may include, but is not limited to, the homecoming game and the Potato Bowl. It is always fun to stand on the sidelines hollering and screaming for our favorite player or our favorite team. As always, after the games there is always the long-awaited Wasilla bonfire.
As we all know, the homecoming dance comes after the game and festivities.
For the girls, this means constant questions about "Will I get asked?" and "who will I go with?" Of course they will just have to get their nails and hair done in order to look the best for the opening dance. Don't forget the hours, days, and maybe even weeks to find the right dress.
This happens to be almost more important than the guy you're going with.
For the guys, all it will mean is asking the girl, getting a tux, and combing their hair -- they have it so easy.
Though it may be that some of us are still worried about school, even though we are two weeks into it already, I personally am fairly excited. I love the excitement of getting schedules and meeting tons of new people.
I am sure that more people than just I are very excited and are up and ready to go, too.
I hope that as we continue through the year, we will be well on our way to achieving all our goals; get the grades and have a blast doing it. I plan to.
