WASILLA — A burglar threatened the homeowner that surprised him in the act with the man’s own gun but didn’t manage to evade capture Tuesday afternoon.

Alaska State Troopers are charging the case as a robbery, implying the use of force, rather than just a burglary. The call to respond to the home on Begich Drive came in at about 2:21 p.m.

“Devin J. Rudolph, 26, of Wasilla, had broken into a residence and stole several items including a firearm. The homeowner interrupted the burglary and was threatened by Rudolph, who was armed with the homeowner's stolen firearm,” reads the ensuing trooper report, in part.

Arriving troopers found Rudolph in the driveway. They arrested him on charges of burglary, robbery, theft and assault charges. He was jailed at the Mat-Su Pretrial facility on $20,000 bail and will be required to find a third party to watch him before he can be released. As of Wednesday afternoon he was still incarcerated.

Court records show an open assault case for Rudolph filed in December, 2014. The rest of his record contains just minor offenses and civil cases.
