WASILLA – Mat-Su Regional Medical Center has been named a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations. This is the third consecutive year Mat-Su Regional has earned this distinction, making it the only hospital in Alaska to have earned this award three times.

The Top Performer award recognizes hospitals that excel at meeting The Joint Commission’s stringent measurements for exemplary patient care. The Commission announced the 2014 recipients on Tuesday.

“This honor reaffirms the confidence and trust our community has in our ability to provide exceptional care to every patient,” said John Lee, chief executive officer, Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in a press release.

To be a 2014 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2014 accountability measure data, including: achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures; achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality healthcare,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission. “I commend the efforts of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”

Mat-Su Regional was recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence measure performance for pneumonia, heart attack, heart failure, immunization and surgical care.

“We are extremely proud of our physicians and clinical staff for their hard work and dedication to providing safe, effective care across the hospital,” said Emily Stevens, chief nursing officer, Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. “The Joint Commission’s recognition of our efforts is very gratifying for our entire team.”
