Host Knights finish second at Colony Invite

The host Knights finished as the runner-up in the team standings during the Colony Invitational Saturday at Colony High.

Four Knights won their weight class and 19 placed in the top four. Asher Clayton (119 pounds), Matthew Mitchell (130), Elijah Larsen (145) and Nolan Gallgher (215) each placed first.

The group was among nine Valley wrestlers to win individual titles during the tourney. Palmer’s Kael Salisbury (112), Cody Vansiegman (135) and Nolan Deemer (140) won their weight class. Achilles Alexander (103) and Izak Punturo finished first for Wasilla.

Colony finished with 184.5 points in the team standings. Palmer was third with 136 and Wasilla was fourth with 127. Soldotna won the team title with 186 points.

Colony’s Tegan Olson (135), Emillano King (145), Keith Connaker (171) and Jackson Goss (285) advanced to the finals and placed second.

Carter Paulson (189) was second for the Moose, and Joseph Spangler (119), Eugene Obukhovskly (140) and James Lackey (215) were second for the Warriors.

Colony’s Canon Sprika (135) and Richard Strom (140); Palmer’s Elden Caple (152), Jadon Weldon (160), Ezra Ginn (171) and Harley Watkins (215); and Wasilla’s Chase Foss (112) and Peyton Wright (125) all finished third.

Colony’s Bayleigh Harrington won a title during the Anchorage Christian School Invitational girls tournament. Harrington was first at 126. Kaitlyn Cottrell (138) and Gia Jones (185) placed second for the Knights.

Palmer’s Noelle Buck (235) and Redington’s Mya Rhodes-Hunison (165) placed third. Redington’s Joy Walker (138), and Wasilla’s Kaelynn Seidl (100) and Ellen Larson (152) placed fourth.

In the ACS boys tournament, Redington’s Wyatt Milnes led Valley wrestlers with a second-place finish at 171. Sawyer Love (103) and Ty Newman (152) were both fourth for Susitna Valley.
