The Colony Knights girls basketball squad added another trophy to the case for the season, winning the Colony Basketball Classic over the weekend at Colony High.
The Knights, who opened the season by winning the Service Tip-Off, beat Monroe Catholic. Service and South Anchorage during the tourney.
The Knights needed to overcome a slow start to get past Monroe 60-48 on the first day of the tourney, The Rams jumped to a 16-7 lead, and held a 31-24 advantage at the break.
Hallie Clark scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the second half, to help the Knights outscore the Rams 36-17 in the final two quarters. Tonya Karpow scored all seven of Colony’s points in the first quarter and finished with 13.
Clark scored 29 to lead Colony to a 63-52 win over Service. She had 13 in the second quarter. Karpow and Ashlynn Waggoner added 11 each.
The Knights capped their weekend with a 69-24 win over South. Clark scored 17. Karpow added nine.
The Colony boys finished 1-2.
The Knights opened with a 64-54 win over Juneau-Douglas. Leyton Lockard hit five three-pointers, and scored 21 points, Mylz Mongeau added 14.
Two-time defending state champion East Anchorage beat Colony 65-48. Mongeau scored a game-high 27 in the loss. He hit four threes and was 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
Monroe got past Colony 47-40. Mongeau scored a game-high 22.
Clark was named the tournament’s girls MVP. Karpow was named all-tournament for the girls, and Mongeau was all-tourney for the boys.
