Host Knights second at Colony Invite; Warriors win Kodiak tourney

The host Colony Knights finished as the overall runner-up during the Colony Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday at Colony High School.

Colony crowned five individual champs during the tournament, four in the girls class and one in the boys division. Grace Loutzenhiser (100 pounds), Braelyn Troxel (120), Amelia Fawcett (145) and Noelle Buck (235) each finished first for the Colony girls. Jake Roderick led the Knights boys, winning the 171-pound class.

Colony finished with 272 total points. Soldotna used success in the final round to surge past the Knights and finish with 299.5 points.

Gabriel Crockett (112), Tristen Mayer (152) and Jackson Weller (215) also advanced to the finals and placed second for the Colony boys. Tiffany Churchill (107), Sophia Ellibee (114), Keila Decosta-Robles (126) and Kayden Makamson (132) were all second for the Colony girls.

Wasilla finished third in the team standings, and had a pair of champs. Olivia Probasco (132) and Brynlee Lutz (138) each won their weight class for the Warrior girls. Becca Taysom was second at 152.

Palmer also had two individual champions. Defending state champion Kaelan Vesel won his class at 189 for the Palmer boys. Macayla Alone led the Palmer girls with the title at 152.

Carson Mastberg was second for the Palmer boys at 140. Abigail Paddock was second at 120 for the Palmer girls.

Bayleigh Grube (138) and Nikayla Miller (185) both finished second for the Redington girls.

Wasilla also sent a group of wrestlers south and won the team title at the Robin Hervey Invitational in Kodiak.

Peyton Wright (130), Achilles Alexander (135), Thailyn Reynods (140), Kaleb Boothby (160), Max Moat (171) and James Lackey (215) placed first for the Warrior boys. Taylor Cooley (100) and Taryn Wright (132) were first for the Wasilla girls.

Corbin Lutz (152) and Noah Benoit (189) were second for the Wasilla boys, and Danielle Steiner (120) was second for the girls.
