PALMER — The host Colony Knights kept most of the hardware at home.
The Knights used a half-dozen individual titles to cruise to the team championship during the Colony Invitational Saturday at Colony High School.
Colony finished with 237.5 points in the team standings, just more than 100 better than rival Palmer, the runner-up. Two-time 4A state runner-up Caleb Hopkins was among six Knights to win a weight class. Hopkins was fist at 182. TJ Clapp (98), Jared Hopkins (106), Aiden Ehmann (113), Rush Fannon (126) and Eric Christy (170) also finished first for the Knights.
Colony, Palmer and Wasilla combined to win nine of the 15 matches in the final round. Palmer senior Lucas Santana led the Moose with a title at 285. Jacob Dyer (132), Asa Barnes (152) and Jason Watkins (160) each finished second.
Palmer finished with 134.5 points in the team standings.
Sterling Uhlenhake (138) and Andrue Shepersky (152) each won their weight class for Wasilla. Chandlers Jones was second at 98 pounds for the Warriors.
Wasilla, which also sent a squad to the John Tobin Invite at North Pole, was fifth in the team standings.
Pair of Warriors win class at North Pole
A pair of Wasilla wrestlers finished first in their weight class during the John Tobin Invitational Saturday in North Pole.
Alex Prayner placed first at 106, and Alexander Logsdon won the 120-pound class. Wasilla’s Jack Fuller (98), Samuel Logsdon (126), Hunter Hayes (132), Gregory Dean (145), Corey Dahlberg (160) and Jacob Anderson (170) also reached the finals, and placed second.
Wasilla finished third in the team standings with 146.5 total points. Lathrop won the tournament with 245.5 points.
Redington freshman leads Valley at ACS tourney
Redington freshman James Paris led Valley grapplers in the Lime Solar/ACS Invitational Saturday at Anchorage Christian School.
Paris pinned Napaskiak’s Stephen Maxie at the 5:29 mark during the finals to win the 98-pound weight class. Paris, who finished first in the Throw Down in Snow Town in Valdez two weeks ago, also pinned opponents in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Redington’s Kyler Rumfelt finished fourth at 220. Damien Jessup led Houston with a fifth-place finish at 138.
