WASILLA — A hot tub caught fire near in a subdivision off Vine Road on Thursday, nearly spreading to a home.
“I don’t think there was much water in it,” Central Mat-Su Fire Department assistant chief Michael Keenan said.
The hot tub was behind a home on Ro De La Paix. The tub was enclosed and the fire burned that structure, Keenan said, but did little damage to the home — just cracking a few windows.
“It came in as a house fire and so we had a full response going and once we got there and discovered what it was, we kept two trucks just to make sure it hadn’t gotten into the house,” Keenan said.
The homeowners had been throwing snow on the fire before crews arrived. Once firefighters were on scene it was fully out within minutes.
“We just used a couple of extinguishers to finish it off,” Keenan said.
