Houston boys finish regular season undefeated

The Houston Hawks boys basketball team capped off an undefeated regular season.

Houston improved to 19-0 with an 86-39 win over visiting Nikiski March 4 at Houston High School.

Cody Wyrick led a group of five Hawks in double digits with 18 points. Braden Cork finished with 17 points, Cole Taylor added 16, Hayden Howard scored 13 and Colton Bunn chipped in 10.

Houston scored 20 or more points in each of the final three quarters, and capped the game on a 20-4 run.

The Houston girls also finished their regular season with a win, beating Nikiski 56-36. Abbie Baird and Anna Whitted scored a game-high 13 points each.

The Hawks trailed early, but jumped ahead with a 16-point second quarter.

The Hawks also scored a varsity sweep over Homer.

Points and rebounds make up the typical double-double at the high school level. But Houston’s Abbie Baird put together a different combination to help lead her team past Homer.

Baird notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 steals during Houston’s 60-49 win over the Mariners March 3 at Houston High.

Baird was one of four Hawks to score in double digits. Emily Bitler led the Hawks with 14. Anna Whitted also scored 11, and Grace Gillespie added 10. Bitler finished with a team high seven rebounds.

Houston capped the game on an 18-7 run.

The Houston boys raced to an 85-44 win over Homer.

Braden Cork scored a game-high 28 points. Cork shot 10 of 19 shots from the field, and hit seven three-pointers. Hayden Howard finished with 20 points. Hunter Jefferson added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Cole Taylor chipped in 10.
