Houston rebounded from a tough loss and capped its season with a win.
The Hawks edged Eastern Conference rival Mount Edgcumbe 65-59 during the third-place game of the ASAA/First National Bank 3A Boys State Championships Saturday morning in Anchorage.
Houston used an early 18-14 run in the win. Noah Whitted finished with a double-double, earning 13 points and 10 assists. Hayden Howard scored a team-high 20. Cole Taylor also scored 13, and Keldin Nicoll added 11.
The night before, defending 3A boys state champion Nome held on for a 68-63 double-overtime win over Houston during the semifinals.
Nome, the No. 2 seed, outscored third-seeded Houston 7-2 in the second overtime. It was a rematch of a 2022 state semifinal game.
Houston held a five-point lead at halftime, but Nome went on a 22-13 run in the third. Houston forced overtime with a 12-8 run.
Howard led Houston with 21 points. Nicoll finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Taylor scored 14, and Whitted added a dozen. Deegan VanDussen led Houston with 13 rebounds.
