FAIRBANKS — Houston’s big post had a big game for the Hawks last Saturday.
Senior Phillip Pease netted a game-high 23 points to lead Houston to a 53-47 nonconference win over Hutchison in Fairbanks.
Pease scored 11 points during Houston’s 30-11 third-quarter run. Jamison Richey added 16 for the Hawks and Matt Barron scored 13.
Hutchison slipped past the Houston girls 47-36. Victoria Baybado led the Hawks with 12, and Savanna James had seven.
The Lathrop Malemutes swept Houston in a pair of Mid-Alaska Conference games at Lathrop High last Friday.
Pease scored a game-high 20 points, but the Lathrop managed to score a 62-52 win. Scott Kramer added 14 for Houston.
In girls’ action, James scored 16 and Baybado chipped in a dozen, but the Hawks suffered a 61-40 loss to Lathrop.
The Hawks started their three-game road trip through the Interior last weekend with a sweep of Eielson on Eielson Air Force Base.
The Houston girls erased a double-digit lead and scored during the final seconds to grab a 52-50 win over the Ravens. James had 17 points and Baybado scored 13.
The Houston boys beat Eielson 51-22. The Hawks enjoyed a 32-2 run in the second quarter. Russ Ruta scored 17 of those 32 points.
