HOMER — The season for both the Houston Hawks boys and girls programs came to an end during the second day of the Southcentral Conference Championships, Friday at Homer High School.
The Nikiski Bulldogs used a 23-point fourth quarter to cement a 65-42 win over the Houston boys. Ben Bitler led the Hawks with 15 points and five rebounds. Kade Taylor and Kendal Ruta added 11 points each.
Nathan Carstens led Nikiski with 18.
The Grace Christian Grizzlies broke open a tight game with a 14-5 fourth quarter run, and beat the Houston girls 30-19. Ashley Apangalook led Houston with six points Kaila Wilkerson added five points and five rebounds.
Hawks fall in first round
HOMER —The Houston Hawks weren’t able to grab a second straight girls basketball win on Homer’s home court.
Last week, Houston capped its regular season with a 46-45 victory over the Mariners. But Thursday, Homer got its revenge, beating the Hawks 48-31 during the first round of the Southcentral Conference Championships.
Sparked by a 15-4 first quarter, the Mariners secured the win to move forward. Kimberly Quincy led Houston with nine points during the loss to the Mariners.
In boys’ action, Anchorage Christian posted a 76-35 win over Houston Thursday.
Ben Bitler led Houston with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kade Taylor added 11.
