Houston boys win Su Valley Invite

TALKEETNA — The Houston Hawks earned the boys’ team title at the Susitna Valley Invitational at Susitna Valley High School in Talkeenta on Saturday.

Sophomore Colton Buzby won the 400-meter to help Houston finish first in the team standings. Buzby also combined with Charlie Buzby, David Dilley and Arron Reese to win the 800 relay.

Ben Bayne also won an event, finishing first in the 110-meter hurdles. Garrett Elder (300 hurdles) and Charlie Buzby (long jump) also recorded second-place finishes.

Sprinter Nick Kysewander-Kellard helped the host Rams finish third in the boys standings. Kysewander-Kellard was first in the 100 and teammed with Bill Kelly, Dylan Figley and Steen Timmers to win the 400 relay.

Kelly was first in the triple jump.

Sophomore Savanna James finished first in the discus to lead the Houston girls to a second-place finish in the team standings.

Taylor Holen also won an event for Houston, finishing first in the 100.

Bailey Stevenson won the high jump to lead Susitna Valley. Stevenson was also second in the 800 and 3,200. Missy Scott finished second in the 400 and third in the 200 for the Rams.

multiple events

ANCHORAGE — A trio of Wasilla underclassmen won multiple events during the Freshman/Sophomore Championships at South Anchorage High School over the weekend.

Freshman Dejanae Harris was the top sprinter in the girls meet, while fellow ninth-grader Jenna Ford stood out in the distance events. Harris won both the 100 and the 200. Ford finished first in the 1,600 and 3,200. Her time in the 3,200, an 11:14.40, is now a state best this season.

Sophomore Morgan Dampier finished first in the 400 and the 800.

Sophomores Noah Ripley (3,200) and Devon Teeling (shot put) won events for the Wasilla boys.

Moose boys, girls third in Interior

FAIRBANKS — The Palmer Moose boys and girls squads each finished third in the team standings of the Region IV All Schools Meet at Lathrop High School on Saturday.

Palmer junior Jim McCall won the boys’ 200 meter to help his team finish with 96 total points and place behind West Valley and host Lathrop. McCall was also second in the 100.

Palmer’s team of Ben King, Mason Minturn, Chris Osiensky and Davis Dunlap won the 3,200 relay. Osiensky also finished fourth in the 3,200. Senior Wylie Mangelsdorf finished second in both the 400 and 800 for the Palmer boys.

Senior Monica Nuernberg led the Palmer girls with a win in the 100 hurdles. Erin LaMere finished third in the shot put and Morgan Whitfield was fourth in the 400.

Palmer also finished second inthe 400 and 3,200 relay events.

Palmer will host the Northern LIghts Conference Championships Friday and Saturday at Palmer High School.
