HOUSTON — The Houston City Council will receive applications for a vacant seat on the Houston City Council after Kristen Rowe submitted her letter of resignation on April 3.

“I felt, and am reaffirmed that our city representatives care for Houston. I’ve learned and gained so much. I am proud to have sat in seat G. I am proud of the Houston Hawks. Thank you all. I am forever grateful and will stay inspired in service,” wrote Rowe.

The Houston Clerk’s office began accepting applications for new council members on April 9 and will continue accepting applications until April 30 at 5 p.m. Those interested must be a qualified city voter and Houston city resident. The Houston City Council will select a new council member from the applicants to serve a term of office that runs through October of this year.

On April 8, the Houston City Council accepted Rowe’s resignation letter with the passage of Action Memorandum 21-04. At the Houston city council meeting scheduled for May 13, each applicant will be given an opportunity to present themselves and answer questions from existing council members. Those currently sitting on the council may enter into executive session to discuss, but a motion to appoint the new applicant to the city council must be made in open session. The appointee will immediately take office.
