The Houston Fire Department was dispatched to Zero Lake Road on January 17, around 7:30 p.m. after a reported vehicle fire had been reported near the Houston-Willow Creek Sled Trail Trailhead. Upon arrival, crews found a pickup heavily engulfed in flames and went to work extinguishing it immediately.
Chief Christian Hartley of the Houston Fire Department reported that a single engine responded, along with an EMS unit after initial reports could not verify if a person was in the vehicle or not, though someone had reported seeing an occupant in the vehicle that appeared to be sleeping.
“We did confirm that nobody was in the vehicle, finished extinguishing the fire and were complete with the operation in approximately one hour.”
Abandoned vehicles set afire has occurred in the Zero Lake Road area from time to time, as well as other localized garbage and brush fires resulting from the garbage and junk that people routinely dump in the area, though it is not authorized for such actions.
The Houston FD reports that the vehicle is a total loss, as well as all of its contents, and appears to have been abandoned. There were no injuries or any remnants to indicate ownership and the fire was contained to the vehicle itself.
“There was no exposure or extension of the fire to any of the structures at the property,” reports Chief Hartley.
The Houston FD is seeking assistance in locating the owner, and asking anybody who knows the owner to contact the Fire Department at (907) 892-9130 so they can complete any investigation and necessary paperwork.
