WASILLA — The Houston Hawks used 25 second-half points to notch a 42-25 girls basketball win at Seward Thursday.
Houston led by five points at the intermission and used the second-half effort to break open the game. Kimberly Quincy scored a game-high 14 points for the Hawks, and Aspen Ruth added 10.
Houston nearly won consecutive Southcentral Conferenc road games, but Nikiski edged the Hawks 41-40 at Nikiski High on Friday.
A free throw by Avery Kornstad provided the difference Friday night in Nikiski as the Bulldogs held on to win a Southcentral clash over Houston.
A late triple by Makayla Moore — her only points of the game — nearly undid Nikiski's efforts, but the Hawks could not overcome the 12-2 scoring effort by Nikiski in the third quarter. Houston rallied to outscore the Bulldogs 18-14 in the final eight minutes.
Kornstad and freshman Kelsey Clark fueled Nikiski with 12 points each. Kimberly Quincy led Houston with 15 points.
The Houston girls capped their weekend with a 54-39 loss at Homer. Quincy led Houston with 13.
Despite a pair of 20-point nights for Ben Bitler, the Hawks suffered a pair of boys basketball losses.
Friday, Bitler supplied a game-high 20 during a 69-35 loss to Nikiski. Thursday, Bitler scored 20 in a 69-51 loss to Seward.
Bitler capped a nearly 60-point weekend with 19 points during a 61-44 loss to Homer Saturday.
