Houston High School shooting threat deemed misinformation

HOUSTON — A social media post spreading “misinformation”, according to the MSBSD, that contained details of a threat of a shooting gained traction Wednesday evening.

Courtney McDole posted on the ‘Pittman neighbors to neighbors’ Facebook group stating that her daughter returned from school “Anxious and scared about a rumor that there was a potential threat of harm involving a shooting to take place at Houston High School tomorrow.”

“Our principals are very adept at handling situations. There is lots of misinformation being escalated by social media. Our community is very sensitive and we want them to have confidence in our procedures,” said MSBSD Public Information Officer Jillian Morrissey.

“This is misinformation. I want to assure parents that we have not had any statements or reason to believe that there is a potential shooting at Houston High School. We did have report of a potential threat of harm that was investigated by the Troopers and the Houston High School Administration. Appropriate action was taken to ensure all of our students safety. I understand everyone’s concern, and in light of recent events it is important for all of us to be diligent in these matters, but once again I want to emphasize the posting contains misinformation,” said HHS Principal Bill Johnson

The post was shared to Mat Su Valley News on Facebook but later deleted after Johnson stated that there was no threat.
