WASILLA -- The Houston Hawks earned a split over the weekend, losing a close battle with the Skyview Panthers and blasting the Nikiski Bulldogs.
The Skyview Panthers erased a 3-1 deficit with a trio of third period goals en route to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Hawks on Friday night.
Jamie Bennett scored an unassisted goal and Jake Williams posted a pair of scores in the third period as the Hawks jumped to a 3-1 lead.
Paddy Iverson, Lukas Fellman and Travis Mercier scored in the second period to help Skyview take the 4-3 lead.
At the 2:40 mark in the third period, Larry Kincaid took a pass from Jered Cizek and pushed the puck past Skyview goaltender Kyle Kay to tie the game at 4-4.
The Panthers escaped with the win as Fellman scored his second goal of the night just 1:49 into the overtime period.
Houston goaltender Matt Dirshner faced 41 shots on the night and registered 36 saves. Virtually all off the action on the Houston goal came in the second period as Skyview continuously peppered Dirshner. The Panthers had a whopping 25 shots in the second frame.
The following night, the Hawks avenged their loss to Skyview by hammering Nikiski 9-0.
Defenseman Jamie Bennett registered a hat trick for the Hawks. It marked the blueliner's second hat trick in a week. Bennett also posted three goals in Houston's 7-3 win over Palmer on Nov. 16.
Senior Jake Williams posted a goal and three assists in the win.
Kincaid, Cizek, Devon Styers, Henry Orth and Matt Bertling also lit the lamp for Houston.
Dirshner stopped all 17 Nikiski shots he faced to register the shutout.
Houston recorded 47 shots on goal.
