HOUSTON — A man who allegedly fired a round at a woman who was trying to flee an argument they'd been having was jailed Monday and is facing attempted murder charges, Alaska State Troopers say.
Albert B. Escholt, 43, of Houston, was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for an equipment violation at 4 p.m. on Armstrong Road. Troopers report he was arrested on a warrant, but trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said the warrant was actually issued that day. She also added some details about the incident leading up to his arrest.
"It was reported that Escholt and a female were in a domestic dispute, and when she attempted to leave the property in a vehicle he pulled out a large-caliber rifle and fired it at her," Peters said.
Peters said the bullet didn't hit the woman but did hit the vehicle she was driving.
Troopers say Escholt was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility, charged with assault, attempted murder and criminal mischief. His bail was set at $250,000, and he will need to find a third-party to watch over him before he can be released.
