NIKISKI — The Houston Hawks bounced back from a Thursday loss to Homer and grabbed a 47-23 win over Dillingham on Friday during the second day of the Nikiski Tip-Off tournament at Nikiski High School.
Matt Barron scored a dozen points in the win and Jeff Baird chipped in 11 for Houston. Devin Elson pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Barron also grabbed nine steals on the win.
Houston held Dillingham to just 16 percent shooting and forced 23 turnovers.
In girls’ action, Dillingham held off a late Hawks charge and beat Houston 53-46.
Houston, which outscored Dillingham 21-17 in the fourth quarter, was led by Savannah Wells’ 16 points. Khristin Nida hit a trio of three-pointers for the Hawks, and finished with 13 points. Aspen Ruth added 10. Wells and Kimberly Quincy finished with eight rebounds each.
The Houston boys and girls played host to Nikiski Saturday night. Results were not available prior to the Frontiersman’s press deadline.
