How to get alerts if you live by correctional facility

Dear Editor;

Alaska residents should know that if they live or work near a State of Alaska Correctional Facility and have any concerns about emergencies occurring within that facility, they can sign up of for emergency notifications on their home telephone, cell phone, or email.

They should go to the website of State Of Alaska Department of Corrections: choose the facility closest to them for which they have concerns; scroll to the bottom of the page; click on the Red Alert box; and follow directions. (The word Alert is in the color red).

On the facility page, they will first see the box titled “Phone Tree Information” (directly under the facility photograph). The information there advises people to call the facility itself. That advice is out of date. They should scroll directly to the Code Red Alert box.
