Huggins, Neuman stuff pockets with per diem

To the editor:

Through this session, the Republican legislators have been lecturing the public on our state’s budget. Well, maybe they should take a look in the mirror.

Rep. Mark Neuman, of Big Lake, and Sen. Charlie Huggins, of Wasilla, both took over $5,000 each to simply commute to Anchorage. Huggins wasn’t even on the Finance Committee, and was not required to be in Anchorage. But he still decided to stuff his pockets with “per diem.”

We deserve better leadership. During these fiscal hardships we need to lead by example. Neuman and Huggins certainly failed to do so.

I have a suggestion: if legislators can’t get their job done, including legislation they don’t agree with, then they will stay in Juneau until they come to agreement, without per diem.
