TALKEETNA — Human remains found after a cabin fire, may be those of a 72-year-old Willow man, though Alaska State Troopers have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Alaska State Troopers say they received report of the fire about midnight, Saturday.
A search by troopers and a deputy fire marshal the following day turned up the site of the fire and discovered Smith’s remains inside.
No foul play was involved in the incident, according to spokeswoman Megan Peters.
The Frontiersman received an obituary notice Friday for Stephen George Smith, 72, of Willow who “died as the result of a house fire on Saturday, January 3, 2015.”
Peters said troopers cannot verify that Smith is the man who died in the cabin fire, however, as the official results from the Medical Examiner have not been released.
Officials with the Talkeetna and Willow fire departments said they did not respond to the fire.
