Human remains were found inside a burned travel trailer in the Big Lake area Wednesday morning, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

AST received a report of a travel trailer on fire off Burma Road at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“The location is outside of a designated fire service area, and area firefighters declined to respond,” troopers said in on online dispatch published Thursday. “Troopers responded to the fire, which was confined to the trailer, with little risk of spreading to surrounding trees or structures. At 7 a.m., around first light, Troopers returned to the fire and located human remains inside the burned travel trailer.”

AST notified the State Fire Marshal's Office and Deputy State Fire Marshals responded.

The preliminary investigation determined that the fire originated near the center of a trailer, next to a large propane tank that fueled a personal heater. The cause of the fire is accidental, troopers said. The human remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and positive identification.
