Human remains were found early Tuesday evening near Palmer. On Thursday, the Alaska State Troopers released the identity.

The State Medical Examiners Office identified the deceased as Audrey Swartzentruber, 42, of Palmer.

Swartzentruber was reportedly last seen walking down a road in Palmer headed toward Anchorage in mid-December of 2019, according to troopers. Troopers have not released a cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing.

Troopers received a report just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday that remains were found near the Knik River.

The Palmer General Investigation Unit and major crimes investigators also responded and recovered the remains, according to troopers. They were not able to make an immediate identification and the remains were taken by the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and positive identification.
