SEWARD — Defending champion and race record-holder Eric Strabel will compete with hundreds this weekend for the glory of winning the 88th Mount Marathon race in Seward this Saturday, July 4. Strabel is one of 687 athletes registered for the men’s and women’s adult races, though several more may join via auction in Seward tonight.

Strabel is up against mountain running champs Jim Shine, of Anchorage, Ricky Gates, of Colorado, Matias Saari, originally from Fairbanks, and Mount Marathon virgin Kilian Jornet, of Spain.

On the women's side, 2014 champ Holly Brooks has decided not to race, but leaving fellow mountain running veteran Christy Marvin to take back her 2013 title.

The junior’s race (for competitors younger than 18) will see 251 young people take on the mountain.
